I've been busy uploading some tracks onto some other websites (maybe about 5 or 6), just to generate interest in other areas. It's paid off a bit because I'm getting a lot of plays, and generally people like the songs.

The downside is that it's taking over my life. I've got no time to write and record new material. It's becoming an addiction. I've lost track of the number of forums I've signed up to, and the number of places "Never Alone" is hosted. I need to calm down, and maybe put different tracks on 1 or 2 different sites, rather than one or two songs on a load of sites. Stay loyal to maybe one or two.

The trouble is I want to sign up to every OMD site that comes along!

Anybody recognise this scenario? Are you just loyal to UBW, or do you sign up with every new OMD site that comes along, just to get noticed? Fill in the poll and discover if you're an OMD Addict!!!!

I'm in the same case!

the same tracks I've uploaded on UBW are on 4 or 5 others websites, but I must recognize UBW is pleasant because there're only 250-300 artists..
So if you're an active promoter, you can be in good positions in the charts...

Can we list the other OMD we know?
here are some of mine:

http://music.download.com/
http://www.mp3unsigned.com/
http://www.soundclick.com/
http://www.vitaminic.com (ex www.francemp3.com)
http://www.besonic.com

search steven host, I must be in most of them! and that's very exhausting! Confused Confused Confused

Thanks for the comments steven.

MISTRUST...

I did spend some time looking around at other sites to promote my music, and decided that I didn't like any of them. THAT is why I created the Unsigned Band Web. A site with NO BANNERS, POP-UPS, only great artists and music.

I'm curious what other sites have (other than 2000 members... Laughing ) that we don't have.

I am constantly looking to improve this site and make it the BEST place for artists to share, promote, sell, discuss, etc, etc, etc their music.

Give me some feedback people, I want to keep you HERE!!!!!!!

Ron

We (UBW) haven't really been around long enough to discuss loyalty. I do think we have lots of members that appreciate what we do, but I wouldn't expect us to have created a "loyal" following, yet....

My hope IS!!!!!!!!!!!!! to create a loyal following and for THIS SITE to become the site of choice for artists and bands of ALL genre's.

Sorry, but the question bothered me a tad....

I'm on 3 OMDs. But really, the only one I ever bother with anymore is good ole UBW. all the others are way too cluttered, have too many ads, and too many annoying artists.

Just to clear up a few things......

The original message and the poll were meant to be a little bit "tongue-in-cheek", mainly because I'm frustrated at seeing a new OMD springing up everyday and becoming yet another place to host any old tracks. I was definitely one of the many artists out there who fell for the flashy graphics and warm welcomes of all of the new music hosting sites, mainly because I thought they would guarantee a few extra plays and a bit more attention. A bit like playing the Lotto - the more you play, the better the odds of winning (apparently!).

I only joined the OMD rat race in December 2003, when I uploaded 2 tracks to Electromancer. Until then, very few people knew I made music, even though I'd been doing it since the late 80s (albeit making rubbish songs on an old monosynth). I didn't think any of my music would be good enough to be noticed, and wasn't bothered about releasing it anywhere. WIthin a few days, the feedback on Electromancer was great, and "Never Alone" ended up at number 2 in the January download charts - number 2 with my first track on the first site I joined! Everyone on the site made me feel welcome and I started to think that other sites would do the same, and that my tracks would have the same impact. I signed up for quite a few sites and uploaded "Never Alone", but soon discovered that they weren't really "communities", more like just music fileservers, where you could point your existing fans to. If there was a forum, you'd have to post replies all day and review 100s of tracks just to guarantee a few extra plays.

I then discovered UBW and realised that it was the community spirit that I enjoyed, getting honest feedback, and helping to inspire artists in the same situation as me. All of the big OMDs (by number of members, I mean) are (IMO) ok for artists who have a decent fanbase, and who can spend time plugging their tracks, and maybe make some sort of living from music. Are artists actually "loyal" to those sort of sites? Maybe, but only to the point of whether the site is helping them get more fans or sell more CDs. (again, IMO)

As for me, I'd rather be "loyal" to UBW and carry on making music for pleasure and to entertain and help other UBW members with their music-making. I'd rather be involved in developing UBW as a community rather than a massive Soundclick-type site, and help attract more members by telling them it's a community rather than a faceless corporation. I think the mark of a good OMD is where the owner/host actually encourages artists to continue to make music whether they're the next superstar or another bedroom hobbyist.

I'm already taking down my tracks from the other sites, and directing my "listeners" to UBW. Yes, I'm still on Electromancer (another community!) but I'm more interested in using that as a place for discussing the technical side of my music-making, rather than talking about whether or not I make good songs.

Am I the first artist to say "I'm loyal" to UBW? Maybe ?

Very thorough explanation Wink . I appreciate your comments and I think MANY other artists are in the same boat regarding OMD's. It is my hope that over time, by listening to what our members want, we will grow to be the main site many of our members want to spend their time. As you said, I want this to be a community and not a file database. The site is growing nicely and I have several feature ideas in store based on the feedback that the community has provided.

Thanks for the continued support.....

well...

I think I'm on something like 12 or 15 OMD...I suscribed to most of them for some more exposure but get bored by visiting them every day. So Now i can't remember all the OMD i'm on and don't visit them anymore! argh!

I still spend some times on Letstalkmusic.com. Their "opportunities" forum was awesome with real deals with labels. But since last month "submit " to an opps isn't free....something like 5$ each opps....arf'. But it still a huge musicians community with a very high level ( most of artists on LTM are signed or near to)
Soundclick.com is my home! addicted to it cuz' get a lot of buddies on and can find good collabs and ideas. But i realize that I'm not really "part" of it, just speaking with my buddies and don't really taking part in the site "life".
I discovered UBW with a kind e-mail from Ron at the beginning of the Site.
Ron is the first reason why I'm here, and lol, it's the first time I like the owner of a site!
2nd reason is that I really liked the idea to participate to a New community.

Now I can say that I really enjoy a lot UBW, all the work that Ron have done is amazing and trying to help him with feedback, flyers and speaking to ppl off site give me a nice feeling of something "honest".
UBW is growing, slowly and strongly, day after day, and keep his friendly atmosphere. And as an open minded community It makes me discover some artists that never touched me on other OMD ( e.g. : never heard about Steven Host on Soundclick!!! thanks UBW i luv' his tracks!)

Now I just hope that UBW keep this friendly atmosphere when there'll be 1 457 623 452 members, lol!

So today, Soundclick stil be my favorite file database and collabs field, and UBW is becomming my fav "community".

Btw I'm very Loyal to Ron!
