This is one of my favorite songs I've done recently. Those tend to be the ones people like least. oh well.

Anyhow.. I was having some issues with the mixing of this. I did the best I could, but I figure ya'll are much better at that than I (it seems) and perhaps you have some advice. Let me know if you like it too.

so I received some very useful suggestions from a user here. I ended up using the head of my banjo as a snare drum and added some percussion with that.

Better? Worse? Help please.

Love,

Blake...

I really like the new song!!! It has a really classic feel to me, and the vocals are well done...

A couple of thougths on the mix....
-I think the 'snare' should be just a touch louder in the mix with some reverb added
-I would like to hear the vocal melody in the background louder in the mix, perhaps also with a little reverb

That's my .02 cents. Overall a really nice song, with great vocals..

Has a "Call me Mellow Yellow" feel.

I really don't have a problem with the mix. Like most of your stuff it has an authentic feel. There are a couple of places where the vocal and the organ part conflict at the end of some phrases, but that's not really a mix issue.

You've got the paino part carrying the bassline thump. wondering if using a bass for the bassline instead of the piano part clear out some frequencies for a different feel - but again - not that there's anything wrong with what you've got.

I didn't hear the tune before the banjo drums, but if you're wanting to add percussion some other types might work better. I've heard a guy play a tamborine with drumsticks on music like this and thought it worked really well.

Smili... do you think you could be a little more detailed about where that conflict between vox and keyboard takes place? I'd love to know what you're talking about so I can avoid doing that in the future. I have zero musical training.

Everyone.. you've been extremely helpful. I'm going to do what I can to use all your suggestions. I'll add some more reverb to the drumming for sure. I also want to improve a coule vox parts.

Thanks again, friends.

Okay..

I added reverb where ya'll suggested. I increased the volume of backing melody, as suggested. I tried to fill in that bass frequency, as suggested.

Check it.

Trying to remember yesterdays recording....

I can hear the backing vocals better now, which I like. They were really tough to hear before, and I think they add a lot to the tune. The percussion sounds good as well. This song has a really authentic feel which gives it a lot of personality. Great job!

at 1:05 to 1:07 or so; another at around :1:58 to 2:00 or so. Just a dissonance there that bothers me a bit, but hey - it's music and I'm just one set of ears.

btw, wanted to echo comments on bgrd vox. like them.
