Is it the extreme usage of vulgar or explicit language, or does the slightest bit of profanity make a song unsuitable for children?

I'm currently writing a song in which the word "sh**" is mentioned once. Well, once so far. Even so, if I don't use it or any other profane words for the rest of the song, should it still be stamped with the "Parental Advisory" label (see my avatar)?

I do have songs in which I repeat obsenities ("Why?" "Careening" and "The Word" (which isn't on UBW, but trust me... it's bad. Real bad.)) but then I've got "Grass is Greener" where I use one obsenity once. I still have it stamped, but I'm not sure it's necessary.

What do you guys think?

hiya dude...

Profanity in the extreme is the EL (explicit language)label straight off. Sexual references can lead to the EL tag, also.

Words like damn, hell and bloody escape this however due to the biblical context (if that's how I read a description once.)

Yet, many rock bands manage to escape the EL tag for some reason, I can't ecplain, cause I ain't sure myself.

Using a word once, as long in the correct context, or used in a specific way, ie not sayin' for the sake of sayin' it, the Guidance label does not need to be applied (or so I'm told).

But I'd still slap it on, Jack. For safety's sake

Or paste it onto a thread in the lyric lobby and see what the UBW filter sensors! Wink
