I think it's amazing how bad the music industry is. I've been wandering the net tracking down labels here in the UK and I'm surprised how many either say they've closed, or now only distribute.
Big labels have the pulling power and the heavies to close down Independants if they get in the way. But it's a crying shame that, like our film industry, our music industry is so far underground that by the time day light hits us four weeks have passed since the sun originally came up.
We cannot blame it on the fact there arn't enough bands, hell there's more bands than jobs here, so why arn't labels surviving?
Independants give what big labels like S***, C******* and others don't...freedom, something every artist wants either from the start or realises when it's too damn late. These labels should be supported. Labels that produce solid music not something that's been spewed from an assembly line.
Yet, even with a million Indie labels it still wouldn't be easy to break thru into the industry, but there would be, in my opinion, more music out there that we would be sure would last longer than an album or two.
I know that there are many a great artist on MAJOR LABELS, but where did they start exactly? 80% of them on Independant labels, and as their base grew, so did interest, and so where able to dictate the terms of their signing.
But for us, the meek, we cannot dictate, only accept. Maybe a major label will read this and say Well if that's what you think, we'll make sure you never work...fine...touch a nerve did I?
So guys...my UK friends...let's support what's left of our industry...the good guys, the one's who produce music worth hearing...or the only thing we'll be doing in ten years time is sitting in the backyard strummin' with tales of missed glory.
All the best,
Brooksy

i think alot of indies were started by peeps who were doing there own music and if a bigger label comes along they sign and forget the label
plus they set up and release one record then dont bother
or are these labels that you kno who the artists were |
