Of course, the topic title should read 'Electronic'...*rolls eyes*
Hey everyone, I'm John Lawson and a student from northeast UK; I've been learning piano and singing for 10 years, and I've been on guitar for a year now. I've been writing music for a long time now--under the name 'ancientmesa'--and finally put some songs up, you can hear them here.
All comments would be gratefully received, of course. I've only recorded the vocals on the one song so far (Haze Hills) but the others' vocals will be on soon, I hope!
Thanks
JR

Hi ancientmesa. Just listening now.
I'm getting a good vibe from your tracks. Good to see more UK guys joinin' up from the UK.
My fave track has to be "Everyone's Afraid Of Darkness". Like the acoustic in there
Looking forward to hearing many more from y'.
Welcome to UBW |

Hi
First : "haze hills" seems to have some recording glitches or is it me?
and did ya meant the stereo cuts?
Ok , overall it's so good stuff! great atmospheres! "je ne peux pas entendre" my fav....somethin "troublin" inside! Dug it a lot!
Keep up the good work

It was meant to sound like it was skipping, I silenced some tiny sections to make it sound 'skippy'. I thought it sounded like a glitch when I did it! An experiment gone wrong
Thanks all for your comments, they are really valued.

Lots of pops kinda hurt the song. I agree with alek. Purple haze, sounded more distored...je ne peux pas entendre..was better but i didnt really like the "skipping" parts. Very ambient...a little too chill for my tastes but still some very great ideas. Hope to hear more |

I'll do a little 'lo-fi'ing then for you all, I apologise for my ignorance regarding bit rates and the like!
Also, I don't know whether it's that important, but do you think my songs are in the right genre? I feel they lie between progressive rock and electronica, but I want my songs in the right lists otherwise my music isn't being heard by the people I'm targeting at!
Finally, do you think I should/could repost this topic in the rock section?
Thanks again everyone, I'm beginning to think too much skipping is a really bad thing! |

Nice one Brooksy I was never any good at skipping either
Two more songs I wrote today are up: Red and Slide. I'd like to see what you think, there's a slight bit less electronica and a slight bit more rock.

New songs up:
'Echo Delta' which is a layered electronica experiment. Almost a mess on with different sounds and beats.
'Day.1' is my other new song, it's more prog rock.
Comment greatly valued. I'll swap reviews with anyone who's looking for their song to be reviewed too.
Thanks for reading/listening,
