Dunno how well this post will go down....
OK, we got influences and favourite track....What's the song that you set your life by...the one that, when feeling down gives you hope. Or is it a particular line in the song?
Here's mine...
Someday girl, I don't know when,
We'll get to that place we really wanna go
Until then Tramps Like us
Baby we were born to run
Born To Run, Bruce Springsteen
It's a town full of losers
And we're pullin' outta here to win
Thunder Road, Bruce Springsteen. |

I don't know that I live my life by the lyrics, but a couple that have connected with me:
When everything feels like the movies
You bleed just to know you’re alive
And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
- Goo Goo Dolls, Iris
You live for the fight when that's all that you've got
- Bon Jovi, Living On a Prayer |

there's this one line from an Ataris song that I kinda have as my motto/slogan/outlook on life thing
"Life is only as good as the memories we make"
it's from the song "So Long, Astoria," and i think it's just a good positive outlook on life, you know, live life to the fullest, carpe diem, that sorta thing. that's the only meaningful lyric that comes to mind right now, and then the song "My Immortal," by Evanescence, is just awesome and touching |

Great reponses so far!!!
I am REALLY into lyrics, and spend a lot of time reading and thinking about lyrics. I have LOTS of favorites, but here are a few lines that come to mind....
Hello Darkness my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left it's seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain, still remains,
within the sound of silence....
Paul Simon
Cease to resist, giving my goodbye
drive my car into the ocean
you'll think i'm dead, but I sail away
on a wave of mutilation

There are so many but heres the first one that springs to mind
I've heard you say many times
That you're better than no one
And no one is better than you
If you really believe that
You know you have
Nothing to win and nothing to lose
From fixtures and forces and friends
Your sorrow does stem
That hype you and type you
Making you feel
That you gotta be just like them.

I'm a Sarah McLachlan fan too - "how" she sings it connects with me as much or more than "what" she sings. imho. |

was just watching the Simon & Garfunkel - Grand Central Park Concert (I was there for that one...) and I seem to think Art actually crafted the lyrics for Sounds Of Silence (as well as several others including Bridge Over Troubled Waters...) |

Chorus:
Everything is gonna be alright
Everything is gonna be alright
Everything is gonna be alright
Be strong believe
and we all know which artist came first: --> Bob! at least YC is influenced by good artists...although the two sound nothing alike! |

I fear that I'm ordinary, just like everyone
To lie here and die among the sorrows
Adrift among the days
For everything I ever said
And everything I've ever done is gone and dead
As all things must surely have to end
And great lovers will one day have to part

Wow!!!! I would have loved to see that show live!!! I have the soundtrack....
I read that Paul Simon wrote the song, but who knows??? Maybe it was a collaboration. Either way, it's a damn good song, and some incredible lyrics.

"Where your eyes don't go
a filthy scarecrow waves his broomstick arms
and does a parody
of each unconscious thing you do"
They might be giants....
I think these are words we can all live by. |
