Hi All,

Just to let you all know that their are a number of bands in the West Midlands who are going to record a single next week to raise money for the Tsunami Appeal.

The song " Stand Together" was originally written by Rob Halligan a Coventry singer songwriter.

It will be sold through Virgin and HMV stores throughout the UK and 100% of the money raised will go to this appeal.

This is not for self promotion of any of the artists or bands involved. It was realised that not everyone could afford to give to the fund or people wanted to do more and so this was a good way of getting involved.

You can hear the original version which was written by Rob in tribute to those that died in the 9/11 twin towers disaster, including his father.

Here:

http://www.overplay.co.uk/BandMusics/08%20stand%20together.wma

Please let everyone you know about this and that it will be available through Virgin and HMV stores.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and a happy new year to you all

Thank you both for spreading the word, but really it's not my idea it's Rob's although one of my bands will be recording it with all the other bands and artists localy.

Rob felt that he wanted to do more and so did a number of other people and that is how it has come about.

He has appeared on local TV and radio to promote this, there is also someone coming to film it as well. It will also hopefully be backed by the national radio and TV stations and all the artists are unsigned but I stress they are not looking for any publicity themselves, they just want to do it for the appeal as some could not afford to give money or what money they could give they felt was inadiquete.

This way they are putting something in by way of talent and this makes them feel like they are acheiving something.

aww...not to get too girly or anything (sorry guys!!) but that is such a nice gesture...and I luv that it's not for profit, they deserve alot of respect for that...remember right after 9/11 in the U.S., that single "What's Going On?" came out? it turned into basically free publicity for those artists...anyway, good job!!

Hi Bluprintfan thank you for your comments and your support.

As for the free publicity thing well I can assure you that this is not what this projects about yes obviously we will need publicity for the single in order for people to know about it and buy it, but publicity for the bands/artists involved is further from our minds and all the people involved with this have been told as much.

Some of the artists involved have known someone who is still not accounted for, including myself.
I have a freind who lived on an Island just off Thialand and I havent heard from her since this disaster.

I can understand people thinking that it's for publicity but it is'nt I can assure you.
This disaster is bigger than self publicity and the terror and tragedy will carry on for a number of years yet to come.

This is just a way to raise funds and as stated earlier 100% of the money raised is going to the disaster fund. The recording studio has offered it's services free, the only thing that has to be paid for is CD's or raw materials... this money was raised through donations so that it wouldn't come out of any money through the sale of the CD's.

Were hoping that through doing this, people that havent donated already, will buy this and at least they will be making a contribution to the fund, people who are probably embaresed to make a contribution because they feel that what little money they can afford to give, is'nt enough and so then dont bother.

Incidentlly I think we've agreed on the name for the artist as "Playing For Change" the single will be called "Stand Together" if you did'nt already know.

Thank you for your time.

woodster I think you took what I said the wrong way....in no way would I even dream of saying the tsunami single would be for "free publicity".....my comment about that was aimed at the song I mentioned, as a way to compare the two songs and show how much better this one's intentions are, even though the two are very different: celebrity singers vs. mostly unsigned bands; song of solidarity vs. fundraiseing, etc...what can I say, i'm used to celebrities in America being greedy for more money and fame lol...srry about any confusion, and good luck with the song!

Hiya woodster....

Hi Brooksy... NO problem mate.... we are issuing a number of radio stations with copies to play... the whole point is to get as much publicity for the single as possible so people know about it and will buy it for the disaster fund.

I think the song is an absolute gem for this appeal and your help and contribution is fantastic to say the least so a BIG THANK YOU, TO YOU as well... you can either PM me or email me your address.

Many thanks for your support

That is being constructed now and will keep peeps upto date with all that is going on.
