When mp3.com died a vaccumm was created which sprang forth many new OMD's accross the web. Now that they are reopening their doors again what will happen? Those who were burned by mp3.com closing shop, will they return to try it again? I know what I am doing...my hard earned dollars are going to support the inipendant sites who are struggling to survive and not the corporate giants. How do you guys feel about this issue?

Great question Gary!!!

Here's my two cents...

I started my website because of my passion for Unsigned Music. Even if MP3.com never closed, it wouldn't have affected my decision to create this site. That being said....

I don't think the new mp3.com site will win over quite as many as they had last time. They really ticked a lot of people off, and it will take some time for those wounds to heal.

If all of these factors mean I get a little more attention here, my feelings aren't hurt! Laughing

I'm glad Ron started the website. I've been using Electromancer to host my tracks since last December, and most of the members and listeners are in the UK. Ron gave me a wider audience, and UBW is a really good way to start getting your music noticed. I tried Soundclick and Acidplanet for a while, and there were just too many artists trying to get other artists to listen each other's tracks. Those sort of sites are just too big for someone like me who's just beginning to promote some music.

I like the way UBW is slowly building up a following. It gives people time to listen to each other's music and give some constructive feedback. I think youi're right about the new MP3.com - I can't see it getting so many members as last time - I think a lot of people have discovered sites like Electromancer and UBW and feel happier promoting their music here.

I couldn't agree with you guys more Wink I can't see being an indie artist on some huge corporate giants website feeding the monster...unless of course my being there taking up space isn't really helping but rather draining them of precious bandwidth and harddrive space without paying for any of it....I found UBW after checking out the likes of funender, soundclick, purevolume, mp3unsigned, mp3.com and Scrubrecords.com. As I get a few extra bucks I try to help out the places I have made a home at. Right now funender gets $5 per/month and scrubrecords $40 per year (I could have opted for the $20 a year plan but Dan Platt the owner of the site is a good friend and can use the support). And I'll fit in more as I can.

I say support indie music!!!
