I was just curious what everyone was into when your not writing and performing...

My biggest hobby is COMPUTERS. In fact, it's almost taken over my musical hobby! I haven't written in TOO long!!!! I love building custom pc's for friends/family and of course CODING in html and php!

So what's your thing????

I'm one of these people that'll get heavy into one thing - and then burn out and move onto something else. Even Music goes that way for me.

In the past I've been heavily into investing and fundamental stock analysis/valuation models. I'm an analyst by nature, and given the amount of data available on stocks it's a natural avenue for me.

I don't know if you call it a hobby, but I enjoy non-fiction books alot too. Science based stuff often, but also just interesting things I see on C-Span - I have C-Span Book TV on alot on the weekends - watching a discussion of supreme court case on medicinal marijuana right now...

I love novels. I go thru non-fiction phases for a year, then fiction. Am into Wilbur Smith novels and now need to do an African safari. Barefoot. In a UBW t-shirt and loin banana.

Spending time with my 3 kiddies takes # 1 spot though as they are growing up way too fast.

Have been oil painting since 15 and get totally lost with a brush in one hand and a smoke in the other, but haven't touched a brush for a while but will get back into it one day.

Would love to try swimming with bottles on my back, but the waters over here are a bit chilly for scuba-diving. Australia's Great Barrier Reef must be magical under water.

Ron, builiding custom computers for family/frineds - a little dangerous - no? I guessing you've become tech support too? Very Happy Very Happy

On custom PCs, what mobos, video cards, hard drives, etc do you prefer when you're building? do you start with bare bones system, or do you start with a bare case?

Smili...

I usually start with bare case..

And as far as the tech support. They're going to call me whether they buy some piece of crap for $400 from the store or let me build them one Laughing Laughing . At least with my machines I know what's in them and I can use name brand components. LOL

I use different components depending upon which is fastest and $$ good value at that time. I'm building one for a friend this christmas and I'll be using something like the following...

Arrow AMD 3000
Arrow 1GB Mushkin DDR 3200
Arrow Shuttle SFF Case/Mobo Combo (I know I just said I didn't use these, but it's what he wants Laughing )
Arrow Western Digital 200 GB
Arrow Plextor 52X Plexwriter Premium (Best CD burner money can buy, couldn't talk him into the DVD burner)

This machine has integrated video and my bud doesn't play games, so it will be fine for him. If he did play games, I would go with a Radeon card (as much as he could afford)
If I was buying a seperate mobo I would buy: Asus, Abit, or Iwill... I've built machines with all of these and had good results..
