I usually start with bare case..
(snip)
AMD 3000
1GB Mushkin DDR 3200
Shuttle SFF Case/Mobo Combo (I know I just said I didn't use these, but it's what he wants )
Western Digital 200 GB
Plextor 52X Plexwriter Premium (Best CD burner money can buy, couldn't talk him into the DVD burner)
(snip)
If I was buying a seperate mobo I would buy: Asus, Abit, or Iwill... I've built machines with all of these and had good results..

I've also had good luck with Abit myself - although I have a WinME machine on an Abit board that seemed to get a bit flaky after I put in an M-Audio Delta44 card. I seem to always go with AMD too - more bang for buck. One thing about AMD though is you're going to have to get a better and quieter fan. AMD would be doing a good thing if they'd include a better quieter fan with their chips. |

Yeah, there are some good quiet fans out there - I just feel like AMD should include some better fans with their CPU so you don't have to replace the initial one. The level of noise on some of the AMD fans is unacceptable in my view. It's gotta make buyers feel like they've bought a second rate processor just due to the noise. |
