Along with Cool Edit I have discovered I've been bought Cubasis Vst. 5.0..although sneaking around opening wardrobes looking for christmas presents is a childish thing to do, lol!!

For someone who's only ever dealt in Adobe Editing et al....What the heck does Cubasis do?

Ok, so probably this is a dumb question and I should get my backside outta the stone age Laughing

Hi

I only use Cubase as a "sequencer" for Midi sequencing with hardware ( Korg, yamaha)
Cubase pro has "Audio" tracks, which is one of is best point!

With Cubasis vst you can "sequence" your massive collection of vsts and soft synths...just like alek with all his fancy gear, except your power bill is cheaper ; )

Way to go Brooksy.. I use Sonar (Cakewalk product). That's great software you're getting. Cubase is your new recording studio! Not just to sequence, but for Multi track recording as well... Audio and midi are both used. It's like having your own 24 trk + 2"
tape recorder in your house. You use it in the same way you would use tape. Depending on the sound card you have and what you are running for a PC, you can have as many tracks as you want (audio). Midi is a different story.. I don't use it, but I know you can have alot more tracks using midi compared to audio.
I see some frustrating times in your near future. Laughing Laughing Laughing
It can get confusing at times...
If I can help in any way let me know. Smile Alan

Still trying to figure how to work the thing...man it's an addictive bit of software...As soon as I tire of messing about with it (the software), I'll yell for help.

Cheers, people Very Happy

I like Cubasis. It's very cheap. It'ss a very stripped down version of Cubase 5 it's very good for recording basic MIDI and audio.

It's a bit restrictive if you want to record lots of tracks and then apply different effects to them all. It's only got 4 vst instrument slots, so you end up having to be quite creative to get lots of different tracks out of the program.

I've used it for a lot of my tracks over the last couple of years, so I've become used to it's limitations and found ways round them. I made distant shores entirely in Cubasis 4, so have a listen if you want to hear what you can do with it.

I've been using Cubasis 4 for about a year, and version 3 before that. It's not bad for the price they charge (it's about 35 on Amazon UK). I haven't upgraded to v5 yet because it doesn't seem to add very much to what's in v4, but all of the reviews say that it's a great entry-level program.

If you want some more instruments and fx, have a look at KVR-vst where you can find loads of freebie vst instruments and effects.

Hope that helps.
