Michael Frazier reviews Vainglorious Music - So Let Down (Snow)
Hey David, this is a song waiting for the big studio and commercial air time. Very solid musically and vocally. Excellent song construction, solid musicianship, recording and mix. I like the guitar work a lot. This is a very nice tune - very well done. You have a great voice and use it well here. As far as this listener is concerned it is similar but smoother than John Adrasik (sp?) of Five For Fighting. I can't really find any flaws in this song except that I would have liked to follow along with the lyrics. I very much enjoyed listening to this tune - one of the better songs overall that I have heard on the web. Thanks a lot for posting so I didn't miss this one. Michael
PS If you are so inclined you can listen to any of my tunes and let me know what you think. |

Michael Frazier reviews Evin Gibson - This Girl (Part 1)
Hey Evin. This style of music isn't really my forte as far as understanding, so forgive me if my review is somewhat off base.
I really appreciate the fact that you left out the beats and loops - much more listenable for me and the song works well in these ears. Love the acoustic instrument dancing - sounds like mandolin - makes a really great backdrop for the the vocal. Vocals are well done - I totally like the fullness when the backups come in though there are a couple spots where the timing is not 100% and I think that is crucial in this type of tune. Nice groove to this one - gets me moving without giving me a headache. Personally, I'd ditch the old time megaphone sound. If you have to use it - do it only once. A bit of lyrical re-write could improve the latter part of the song to get a twist off of the "this girl" line instead of repeating it - just my opinion. Overall, I liike the sound. You have a really good voice and the song is well written for the style. Solid groove, recording and mix. Very nice and smooth piece of work. I enjoyed the listens. Best of luck to you Evin. Michael
PS Feel free to check out a tune or two of mine and let me know what you think. |

Michael Frazier reviews Stephen Kelly
Hey Stephen, I'm impressed you have been able to develop such a smooth subtle sound. I listened to Muck Mosely and found it quite pleasant. Would have been nice to have those lyrics posted. The guitar is well done and the vocals and musicianship are very solid. I'm not sold on the part where you sing the single word thing - it really interrupts the smoothness of the tune and the staccato feel is a bit annoying - just the thoughts of this listener. The beats are actually pretty good sounding considering the source. I'd much rather hear a real drummer, but this at least has a good sound to it. I'd personally dump the exteraneous talking at the end - kind of distacting from the feel.
Chumpchange - This is excellent - very coooool. Nice work on the slide guitar - smooth with the song flow and still adds that edge. I love that. It fits right in the mix - not overdone - just right. Gets that feel without getting in the way of the song. This song has a nice groove and feel to it - smooth again. Solids vocals - Hey where are the lyrics? Excellent musicianship and the mix is very good. I really like this tune. Nice song composition - changes work well.
Petty Cash - Dang, no lyrics again. This is different, more exposed. Like the piano and the way it lays on top of the guitar and holds up the vocal. I like the backup vocal part as well. Very solid piece of work. Beats are right on and hold the tune together well. Another very nice, solid piece of work.
I'm thinking you should be heard and appreciated by a lot of people. Really nice style, solid musical writing (can"t comment on the lyrics) and excellent musicianship. Mixes and sound quality are really up there. Really good work.
It was a pleasure to listen to your songs Stephen. Thanks for posting your request. You have many talents it would seem - songwriter, musicianof many instruments, singer, recording artist, producer. Sleep well tonight - I hear your musical future calling. You will need all your strength.
PS Feel free to listen to any of my tunes and let me know what you think at the link below. Not as polished but still from the heart. |

Michael Frazier reviews James Herring
Hey James. Glad you got your music up here. Listened to Best Day of My Life - Pretty Fresh 3 chord song. I liked the lyrics and the vocal, as well as the guitar playing. This tune has a nice feel to it. Sounds a tad familiar but a bit diferent. Would be nice if the lyrics were posted - I like to follow along with the train of thought. [fade] |

Michael Frazier reviews James Herring
Sorry, forgot to sign in on the first post - I was playing around with the the text options. Still I liked both of your tunes. Nice vocal quality and some pretty well written lyrics. For songs with a short chord sequence you have made the best of it all with the vocal line. Smooth natural feel works well. The breaks could use a bit of additional instrumentation to change things up a bit but mostly an enjoyable listen. Nice work, simple and honest. Thanks for posting your request. Michael
