Michael Frazier reviews - February First Music
Sweet November - Decent song flow and changes. I like the vocal quality though it feels a bit low in the mix. Guitars keep the song moving along and the drum sound is interesting. A bit flat but works OK. Would be nice to have the lyrics posted. Overall a solid idie type tune.
Moments Like These - I like the feel of this one. It has nice movment and changes. Vocals have a great quality, raw and real. They get a tad quiet in spots. Second vocal adds a nuance that works some of the time, but strays a bit. Very well done tune overall. Mucianship is pretty solid and the mix is quite listenable.
To All My Friends - Good beats, good guitar sounds - crunchy. Could use some hot lead in the open spot after the 1:25 mark. Decent vocals again on this one. Nice testimony to a bit of your past.
Worst Kind Of - I like the lyrics on this tune. A bit of an old Stones feel in the vocal and the song style - and those cymbals in the chorus. Nicely done song construction - solid changes and musical parts that work together well. This would be my favorite of the 4.
You guys have multiple talents to play on and expand as you go along. Some nice work here. I'm sure you'll be around for a while. Thanks for the request and the listens. Ejnoyed your tunes. Michael |

Thanks Micheal,
I got the lyrics posted now. I listened to some of your songs and very much enjoyed them. I really liked Great Day. You would probably enjoy my song "This Mess" more than Sweet November. if you get a chance check it out. Thanks again you are a good analyzer of music. Keep up the good reviews.

Hi Michael,
If you could have a listen to the track at http://www.unsignedbandweb.com/music/bands/5936/
we'd really appreciate any feedback. We've only got one track online here at the moment, uploading another soon, but for now it's online at http://www.myspace.com/speakeasyspace
I like your use of flute a lot, it gives almost a celtic edge to your stuff at times, particularly with some of the percussion you employ (e.g. Great Day).
Thanks,
Speakeasy |

Michael Frazier reviews - Speakeasy
Living Without You - I like most of the song. The guitar part on the breaks is so off time it really throws me. It works within the tunes context, it just feels really odd to me. Inconsistent with the rest of the songs timing. Lyrics are well written with a great message. Maybe a bit hard on yourself, but you obviously think you deserve it. The vocal could have a bit more presence in the mix which is mostly dominated by the guitar. Solid song construction in terms of different parts moving things along and providing support for the melody. Enjoyed the listen to this one.
From My Window - Vocal is up in the mix better in this one, actually too hot in a couple of spots. Need a bit of work on the backup vocals quality and getting them mixed right but nice ideas. I like the flow of the tune and the guitar work is a bit lighter and more melodic. Nice work. Drum work fits in well, holding the beats and timing but not overbearing. Bass is nice and solid. Good work gentlemen. Enjoyed listening to this song.
I can hear the musical and songwriting talent among you. Generally, some vocal stengthening work and improved mixes would improve the quality of the listen for most listeners. Just one man's opinion. These tunes are a great start. Best of fortune to you in your musical future. Michael. |

Hi Michael - been a while! Trust you're all good. If you have a mo could you PM any top ten suggestions you may have as I'm trying to get a chart going. Appreciate any help you can give. On a more usual note - we've got a bunch of new tunes up. Be interested to hear what you think of them - Groove and Asbo are the newest.
All the best mate.

Michael Frazier reviews - Ghotti
Control - This is a very well done song. Great songwriting, both musically and lyrically. Vocals are very solid on this take, a bit raspy in all the right spots. Nice supporting cast on bass and drums - the beat just flows. Guitars are nicely placed and not overdone. I really like this tune. I say mark this as one of my top listens.
Groove - This tune has a nice kick to it. Again very solid rhythm section and tight vocal work. I really would need to read the lyrics to make a comment on them - they are a bit difficult to discern in this format. Nice guitar solo - a little different but keeps it all moving right back into the vocal part. Solid piece of work guys.
Thanks for the listens. Michael |

We're a pretty new band and we'd really appreciate some feedback. Check us out here. The production is pretty cheap (we recorded the songs on a minidisc while rehearsing), but it should give you a pretty good idea of what we sound like.
Thanks in advance...

Michael Frazier reviews - Hoog Farm
Whiskey, Mystics and Women - Has a kind of trancy feel. Not a whole lot to offer in terms of musical movement - sort of over and over, round again. Listenable just nothing really stands out. No lyrical theme really, no story and the vocals are pretty deep in the mix. I know, if you had the multi million studio it would sound great. Well, maybe.
Baby Has a Way - Sometimes it works and sometimes it's very marginal. Some nice ideas though the out of tune and bad bass note execution make it a bit more difficult to listen to. As you point out the sound quality needs a boost, but the real need here is the musicianship. Pitches, beats all need to be solid from start to finish. Like I say, you have some nice ideas, just a ways to go in the execution of those ideas.
Best of luck to you all and thanks for the listen. Michael |

Mike,
Just checked out some of your tunes. Nice peaceful vibe man. Great to hear good music without the aggression. Not that I dont like that but the world needs more of this honest openhearted storytelling. Sounds like you got a bit o the country blues in the mix. Sweet! Let me know what you think of my tunes...
Cheers,
Martin |
