By the way.....i do like the fact that you stand up for your taste and opinion without pussy footing around Michael. It is refreshing to get a saccarine free appraisal and i respect you for it. it does set a standard and i wondered if you fancied putting together a Michael Frazier Reccomends top ten. Perhaps even a radio station.....if you already have then im a thick twat. all the best and keep on.....

Michael Frazier reviews Colours Run

Beautiful Waste of Time - This is one of the most enjoyable songs I've heard on the net. Very cool groove musically and the lyrics are an absolutely great twist on love. Instrumentation, performance, recording quality and mix all feels exceptionally well done. Great lyrics and well done vocally. This is a very fun listen. Love the style. Nice job not overdoing things. Sweet work all around.

Tethers - Interesting angle again on love. Great lyric writing. Another well done piece of music - solid all around. Excellent piece of work.

You have got a great sound overall with excellent dynamics, vocals and musical performance. Love your work. May you go far. Many should hear this. I'm sending links now.

Thanks for the listens. Michael

Michael Frazier review Bockscar

Checked out the tunes and I like what you have put together with the Bass and Drums. Don't care for the rappy lyrics, never did, probably never will. I can appreciate a lot of musical skills but the whoe rapping thing sounds like the disclaimer in a car commercial to me. I just don't get it. No feel just babble. But that's just me. You have a pretty clean straightforward mix and the music has some nice movement without taking my head off with the beats. In fact - the Bass could be brought up in the mixes a bit in my mind cause that is what really keeps these tunes solid and moving through. Thanks for the listen and best of luck. Michael

Michael Frazier reviews Plazer

Bullets and Four Leaf Clovers - Familiar sound of crunch guitar work. Band is pretty tight. Vocal doesn't seem to be quite big enough to match the crunch guitar and the style of the tune. Not my favorite style - I've heard so much it has gotten boring but you guys have a pretty good oveall sound. Decent recording quality, musicianship and recording quality. Lyrics don't really capture a train of thought here and the mix could use help.

Maria - A bit more melodics in this one. Still a solid, tight band working together. The vocals seem a bit low in the mix to me - there's that crunch guitar in the way again. Tune feels a bit hollow. I think it needs more vocal presence with feeling - sounds a bit like going through the motions. Lyrics are less than stellar but there is a great piece of meaning in them. I like your changes and the dynamics they create in this tune though the overall mix doesn't fully do them justice.

My Favourite Enemy - Way too much crunch for the vocal. This song should have a lot more subtletly - the repeated guitar lick really doesn't carry the song as you have portrayed it. It's loud repetetive and doesn't really take the listener anywhere. Guitar player got a hook and overplayed it and everyone else built their parts around it. Not my favorite style to listen to. Lyrics have meanig and I like that - they come up a bit short of really sending home a message. Again the musicainship is good and the mix could use some work.

Overall, you have some nice ideas, overuse the crunch guitars and leave the vocals too far back in the mix. I still appreciate the musicianship and wish you the best in your musical endeavors. Michael

Michael Frazier reviews - Mayhap, Jim's Children

I absolutely love the keyboard sounds - very Brian Auger, if you know of him. Nice construction and movement in this piece. Very cool jazzy/funk groove. Dig it. The two of your are tight together on this one. Man I sure would love - and I'm sure you would too - a tasty bass line, a bit of lead guitar and a solid vocal on this one. Horns would be very complimentary as well. You have a great sound here - it just needs some more instrumentation to fill it out and be stellar. Nice piece of work and an enjoyable listen. Thanks. Hey Michael,

Thanks for the review! (although the song is called Jim's CHICKEN Smile ) Glad you like the keys, I went out and bought a vintage Hammond organ and Leslie speaker to get that classic sound.

I listened to several of your songs as well. Although not usually the style of music I listen to, I enjoyed your guitar rhythyms and I definitely dig the funky bass line in Zombie. That and 'Free and Flying' were my favorites. Nice work.

I'm not familiar with Brian Auger, but I'll definitely check him out.

Thanks,
Brian

Michael Frazier reviews Bypass

You - Well I'm not a big fan of crunch guitar or metal - though I don't really think this song fits that category. Decent vocals, mix and solid musicianship. You have some decent changes and a bit of dynamics in this one. Solid tune overall.

Beliefs - Overall solid piece of work. Guitars are overdone for this listener and the yelling vocal serves no purpose to me.

Sweet Angel - Early part of the song finally lets the vocal shine through. Nice musical changes. Again solid musicianship and a decent mix. Really need something else to help hold this one together - it feels a bit fragmented like a bunch of ideas stuck together. This one might have to many changes to give the listener any cohesive feeling to relate to.

Overall I'm thinking the vocal would be better served by some keyboards and a bit less reliance on the crunch guitar to set the tone. Vocal has a nice smooth quality that would sound really good with music that has a more dynamic approach. Drum work is solid though it is a tiny bit overbearing in parts of the mixes - still better than being too low. You are getting some decent mixes and the musicianship is pretty solid. Remember - it's just one man's opinion. Thanks for the listen and best of luck to you all. Michael

Michael Frazier reviews COMEG

Hurricane - Sounds like a U2 clone songs. Decent work. Solid musicianship and vocal and a decent mix.

The Rest of Your Life - Another take on U2. Again another solid piece of work. Solid musicianship and strong vocal decently mixed.

3.24 - Maybe it's the vocal and the chord progressions and the instrumentation - hmm that's pretty much everything. This one sounds like a U2 clone as well. Another solid recording over all.

Don't know if you are intent on the U2 clone sound or if it is incidental but your tunes sound suspiciously like their style. Personally, I've grown way tire of their music so yours is both fun because it is not them and a bit annoying with the extreme similarity. Just one man's opinion. I did enjoy the listens though and I appreciate the musicianship - you guys have some talent - and I wish you the best. If this is your all natural sound I say stick with it but if it is even the slightest bit contrived . . . well be yourself. Michael

Michael Frazier reviews L.S.H.D.

Future to be Determined - Don't really care for the fake radio begining - heard it so many times - it's just old and tired. Lead vocal is a bit low in the mix. Harmonies are a bit loose and the song overall sounds kind of ragged. The farting bass sound doesn't really add that much - something with a cleaner tone would be more listenable. Overall the musicianship is pretty solid. Stops work for the song but they just expose the annoying farting bas in this mix. I don't really derive any meaning from the lyrics - kind of repetetive without much to say. Enjoyed the listen. Best of luck. Michael.
