Hi, I'm Mason from Best of Winter. We are a young indie/emo/pop/punk(we haven't figured it out yet) band. Looking for direction. Could you check out GINGERALE and INTRO_OPEN UP THE SKY(CELLAR DOOR), then tell us if we are heading the right way
Thanks Beforehand, BEST OF WINTER

Even though I am not qualified to give a review here...I need to put in my two cents and no disrespect to the moderator or owners of this website...
You guys really have talent "Gingerale" reminds me of something that would be classified as west coast punk meets detroit rock (not a bad thing)
even though Im not really into that type of genre, I enjoyed it, everyone flowed and that is what it takes to make it.
"open up the sky"
Thumbs up all around on this song, so far my personal favorite, you guys reminded me of Iron Madien modernized..lol
have you guys been contacted by a label yet?
if I were you guys, I would contact Dead Frog Records, they might be interested, however, they are in sweden, but hey,,,,,,you just never know the possibilities until you try...and to answer your question "Are we going in the right direction"?
I would say HELL YEAH,
good luck
and hope to hear you guys on the radio soon

I'm sure the moderators are real pissed at you......no, honestly I even doubt that they noticed this post at all. Maybe about time to change that promise of "two reviews" on this forum?
Anyways, here's my honest input:
-Ginger Ale-
This song was chosen as the "song of the day" on IC-Musicmedia on the 3rd of April (yesterday), congrats!
But for my taste, this crashes. I'm not to fond of this new-wave punk, I prefer the old-school stuff. Don't get me wrong, you do your thing very well, it's just not my thing.
Maybe it's intentional, but the base sometimes hits some notes that don't quite fit in my ears....or maybe I just didn't get it. The vocalist catches the style you're obviously going for perfectly, you know by now that it's not my kind of thing, but I'm sure others will dig it.
All in all good drive, pretty tight, but not my cup of tea.
-Open Up the Sky-
Cool beginning, this is something I can relate to more. Nice riff, allthough the drums maybe could have stayed the way they were in the beginning without changing into straight beat, just my 2 (or is that 5?) cents. Definetely more experimental than Ginger Ale, allthough you're still wandering in new-wave-land. Again, very nice drive.
This isn't something I really can relate to, but I'm quite impressed by the overall instumental effort. Keep it up. |
