TV company looking for an unsigned sound a like band to play the backing music to a 1 hour documentary on 'Muse'. THis will be non broadcast and will be sold on DVD in all the major music stores.

I assume that the reason they want bands that aren't members of mcps is so they can do some kind of total buy out - ie.own the track for broadcast in every medium, every territory and for ever-so no publishing payment for the band (ie it gets played-you won't get paid!). any1 who goes for this please look up the standard rates for a buy out for whatever they're after. Could be cool but...........

seems to me they want unsigned band not because they're looking to tap into the underground or discover anyone-more just saving money so watch your back.

(But then hey - I'm still unsigned so what do I know anyway!)

Pss - Your publishing uncome is your pension - keeps paying long after you stop playing so careful what you give away.

Just checked out their site - mid to low range production stuff seems to be their thing. (it's all relative - I'm matching them up to global big boys who do global big boy stuff). That thing about specifically not being member of mcps bugs me though. Anyone know enough about it to put my mind at ease? As I understand it MCPS is their to protect and regulate composers, producers and musicians. Don't think they do much more give advice and try to make sure no one gets ripped off - presumably by black listing anyone who is ripping people off and letting other members know - yes I know - I have adeeply dark and suspicious mind - but just because I'm paranoid don't mean the whole world aint out to get me! :smt112

Sounds like a golden opo to get ripped off to me........If they are doing a Doc about muse how come they aren't using muse's own music???? I smell the dark stench of Mr Rippoff and his gang of con-men............... Shocked
