Michael Frazier reviews Tuttle - Snow Blind
Would have liked a site link so I could see what all you have posted and especially if you had the lyrics up for this one. I like to follow along - multi-task with lyrical brain and listening ears rather than slam-task with ears. Anyway, I liked your tune. It has a smooth feel and the song construction itself, though basic, is well done. From what I could catch the lyrics have some unique ideas in them that I appreciated - nice twist on older ideas. Guitar playing well suited the mood of the song. Although DJEmpty wanted to pre-empt my review, I did not notice the keyboards being too loud. They were a bit off the mark to start with and then you layed out some melodic lines that fit in well, I thought. Certainly the keyboard sound itself could be improved upon. Still I thought the mix was listenable, not perfect, but listenable. If I could make one observation, your voice is alright and needs some strengthening. Try singing some scales everday for a couple of weeks to test your pitch and high and low levels and you will notice a difference. I know it seems silly but trust me - 20 minutes a day on vocal scales for 2 weeks will double your vocal presence.
Just a note - you labeled this take "Final Version". There is no such thing. Play this song again by yourself on acoustic tomorrow and notice the difference. That is the really cool part of music. It isn't a painting on the wall. The recording might be like that but never the song itself.
Best of fortune to you. Hope I have not offended you with my comments, I'm just trying to provide a listener's ear and some comments that might help you move forward with your music. That is the most important thing after all - Your own growth as a songwriter and musician. Michael |

Michael Frazier comments on the post by DJEmpty
This thread is intended for the review of acoustic music. Beats and loops stuff belongs on a different thread. Admire your dedication to promotion - you are just in the wrong thread for a good review. Best of luck. Michael |

I did believe that DJ was requesting a review and discovered a tune that was not acoustic and would be better reviewed on another review thread. Thanks to U4eA for the proper thread to steer DJ to. No harm intended DJ but as U4eA mentioned, on this thread I am only interested in acoustic songs. Thanks for the props gentlemen. Michael |

Hey Michael.
If you're still reviewing, I would love it if you reviewed my song Where She Dreams. If you go onto the main acoustic page here on unsignedbandweb.com, scroll down to top plays all time and I think it's there at the bottom. Thanks a lot.

Michael Frazier Reviews Rob Augustine
Hey Rob, hope you don't mind. I took the liberty of listening to the 2 songs I found on your page here. I went to the page to read the lyrics.
On with the reviews
Where She Dreams Great beginning. I love your guitar riff coming in and it just keeps going. Vocal lines are well written and compliment your solid lyrics nicely. Great grrove / feel on this tune I wanted to start popping some congas - and I don't even play them - yet. A bit of a Dave Matthews feel in the way you built the vocal and melody lines. Nice transition to the bridge part - breaks up the song and still maintains the comfort zone of the song. Overall the sound quality was quite listenable and I thought the mix was well done. Very nice tune Rob. Made me want to listen to something else of yours, so I did.
A Thousand Dreams
Another nice piece of work. Again I really liked the acoustic guitar work. Lyrics are well written and again your vocal style weves them into the guitar structure very well. Still hearing a touch of D.M. here. Solid on the execution and another good bridge to break things up. Overall sound quality and mix both well done again.
Keep on writing and playing and sharing that wealth of talent. Thanks, Rob, for posting and for the listens. Michael |

Michael Frazier reviews Alan Keeping
Alan, this is not really the acoustic style I was looking for but it reminded me so much of the style my friend has I'll review anyway.
Lost Wish the lryics were posted. I say this to everyone who doesn't do this. Solid beginning, gets the tune rolling right away. The overall feel is kind of dark and mysterious and yet very telling at the same time. You use the orchestated instruments well and in the right places. I'm not sold on the repeating whispering line and I can't tell what it is saying. The change to the quieter vocal line is a great contrast but it wants to disappear into the mix and loses some of it's presence. Very listenable and I liked the changes.
Time Again, would like to see the lyrics. Another solid beginning and very cool guitar riff. Vocal has a workable dissonant feel against that backdrop. Vocals are a bit heavy on the efect and that tends to draw them back into the mix a bit making them more difficult to hear. Overall a very listenable tune with some really nice orchestration.
You obviously have some talent for a variety of musical ideas and are able to put them together to create a song. Keep on writing and playing and sharing that talent - a lot of people never just don't get it. Thanks for posting and thanks for the listen. Michael |

Michael:
Thanks for listening to the songs and thanks so much for the kind words. It is so great to hear when someone enjoys your music as it seems you did. Dave Matthews actually is a huge influence of mine. Thanks again.
