Greetings gents (and ladies).. I was hoping for some input on a new song I've just completed.
http://www.evanlesser.com/a_different_life.mp3
or
http://www.evanlesser.com
This song takes a look at seemingly small and insignificant things that we do but that actually have a big impact on life. Whether it be leaving the house five minutes too late, getting a surge of confidence, missing a phone call or turning a car wheel, actions like these can cause more change than they are given credit for.
Lyrics:
What if I never turned to the right?
I'd a missed you walk into my life
You can't regret who you never have met, or you might
Woulda been, shoulda been, coulda been
What if I never answered the phone?
Could you spill your heart after the tone?
Would you finally get brave, with the thoughts that you saved all alone?
When the bottom is falling out
It's left to chance without a doubt
Did you know just what to do?
And was it really up to you?
Woulda been, shoulda been, coulda been a different (life)
Life gives plenty of chances each day
To find your stars or just wish them away
It's the littlest things that we do, they can bring the most change
When the bottom is falling out
It's left to chance without a doubt
Did you know just what to do?
And was it really up to you?
When you're caught between yellow, green, and red
And hope turns to bittersweet instead
When the bottom is falling out
It's left to chance without a doubt
Did you know just what to do?
And was it really up to you?
Woulda been, shoulda been, coulda been
Woulda been, shoulda been, coulda been
Woulda been, shoulda been, coulda been a different life |

Hey Evan,
I like the track even though it's a bit poppy for me. Nice production and ready for the radio but I think a few years back. That's not such a bad thing, just a time warp. I was trying to figure the effect on the vocals. Was it a synth riding along or something? I dunno but it works for what you're doing with the piece. I also had a listen to the other tracks from your site. All consistent. Reminds me of 10CC, ELO, XTC.

lodato - thanks for the comments. The only vocal effect chain is:
- EQ (Reaper native EQ)
- Compression (Waves SSL channel strip)
- Doubler (Waves Doubler VST)
The harmony vocal uses similar settings and does follow the lead vocal closely. |

I like the words I think they're cool but I think it would be cool if it had a more of an edgier sound. A little more rock, a little less pop. |

classic style, need a bit more lowpass in my opinion, near correct record, vocals are good, lyrics are standard and ok, need more work on mastering track.
keep doing you things you could be really good with music |

I love pop songs. I hope that I'm in for a treat...
This sounds good. It's really "happy", though I wouldn't consider it "pop". I think that it sounds good for a commercial back in 1980 or something. It still sounds good though.
Keep making music. |
