lol that's so true. i was in Detroit once while on a trip from NY to Chicago. we came back through Ontario and drove through quite a bit of Detroit because we wanted to have a look at it. this proved to be a mistake as we got low on gas and had noticed while driving that Detroit has a lot of rough looking areas. lol we stopped to get gas at this place looked more like a small prison that also sold gas. there aren't many of those even in KC. we only stopped there because we had been trying our luck to find a less-scary gas station but had decided it was better to go ahead and stop instead of getting stranded. we had been camping for a few weeks and had a lot of stuff with us. my friend had also brought his son, so we were a little extra nervous. in the end, i got the gas, so at least if someone got killed, he could drive away with his kid. but that wasn't necessary. we were very out of place, though. rough city for sure. lol 8 Mile!!!! lol |

Well, I am glad you made it out...lol......I actually live about 9 miles north of the city........some parts of Detroit are really nice, some parts are really bad, for instance, all those abandoned and burned homes?...they are real, all the trash in the streets, that is real, 8 mile rd. barrier?, real also, one of the reasons 8 Mile is more famous than what Marshall (Eminem) has made it....according to my Father in law, 20 or so years ago, 8 mile was a cutoff for blacks and whites...whites to the north, blacks to the south, it really isnt that way today, but you can still overhear someone making a reference to that fact.......I did some pipeline work in the heart of Detroit, I don't know how many times i was asked for money and or cigarettes i even had a crackhead ask me if I had 400 dollars to loan her, hell, one of our company trucks was stolen right off the jobsite, right under our noses...lol
anyway, you just have to know where to go, and if you have to be there just act cool and don't be stupid, I am very hopeful that Detroit may be going in the right direction after ousting Kwame....but that is a whole other issue and I don't want to get all political and shit..lol
But we do have casinos here....yea!!!! |

i'd forgotten about that scandal. yeah, that's a mess. that guy must be crazy. if he would have just pleaded no contest or maybe just resigned, he would have saved his political career...perhaps. but it's probably a good thing that he's gone for good. KC has some issue with its mayor, but what big city doesn't, except for Chicago and the Daley machine. lol and evidently Bloomberg, since the city council just voted to lift the term-limit restrictions. and the bad parts of Detroit i saw were not really any worse than places i've seen in Chicago. it just kind of struck me how much poverty there is there. i'd already heard about it before, but seeing it is something different. it kind of reminded me of Troost St. here in KC. you have to be careful there no matter who you are. part of the campus of the Univ. of MO borders Troost and kids get robbed. we get emails about it. the kids are always getting multiple hundreds of dollars stolen. it's like, "stop carrying so much f@#king money around already!" lol kids, when will they learn? lol i'm such a dork. alright, enjoy Rock City! |
