i've been waiting to hear what you two would come up since i read a post where Matt had talked about possibly doing some vocals for you. i think this track is a lot more metal than the others you've posted under that genre so far. for all i know, this is a track you've posted before, but now there's different vocals.
the vocal style isn't one that i'm really a big fan of, BUT Matt, you do it very, very well. it's always a plus when a guy can not only do the style, but can also do it in a way where one can still understand the lyrics. i'm not much into this style of music, so know too little to say how it stacks up to other tunes of the same ilk.
as for the recording, overall you guys did a effing great job! big up yourselves! sounded great on my monitors. nicely balanced. how are you recording your guitar tracks, though? you've got chops for sure, but the tones coming out do do them justice. i know how hard it can be to get really good sounding guitars on PC, though. that's kind of why i ask before being an ass and just ripping into them. most of the electric work i've tried doing has sounded like crap, hence there being nothing available from that material. the tones fit the piece, but they all sound a little thin, which is an issue i've also had. if i try using the DSP on my effects processor, it's too thin, and my amp is absurdly warn and bassy, so no luck there either. i guess it's time to try different pickups and a different amp! but, i'm not sure what your story is.
all the pieces are there, though. i think you'd get a better, fuller sound by miking the guitar parts through a good sounding amp. of course i am also well away that we're all doing the best we can with the gear we have. not sure what you're using, but know that Gunner has had some really good results with his Line 6 Guitar Port thingy as of late. just in case you're looking to go completely through the PC.
so, with that, great job, fellas! |

Pleasure working with you Matt. We must do it again.
Gorgatron. I play my guitars through a Zoom 505 II effects box which is pluged straight into my Creative external sound card. I have heard good things about the Line 6 on my other website. As soon as I can afford it , I'll buy one. I have been told by my betters that my EQ is the problem and that in the next mix I should shave some dB's off between 5 & 10 Khz. I 'll give it a whirl. |

my dad also uses the Zoom. it's a pretty nice piece of equipment, actually. as i mentioned in my comment, i think the tones that you're using sound really good. there's just something about how they sound in the mix. your betters are probably right and you can solve the issue with adjusting your EQ. let us know when you've got a new mix. i'd be interested to hear the difference. good luck and good work! |

guys, i had a zoom gfx 707 about 10 years ago (for real and everything) and it was the sweetist thing, though i did fall out with the really terrible drum machine on it, i still could make more funny noises with it than with that stupid line 6 xt live crap that 'Gorg' has to put up with too, ive sold mine, id rather smash the shit outta a guitar and make some noise than have anything but a zoom... they ARE the gods of easy, funny noise, press a button and make a sound fx... then you grow out of them...
so where do you go... NI's guitar rig 2????
maybe so, if you can carry your pc to each and every gig im sure we are all not getting.............. (was that enough dots??) lmao
ive actually read that back and it makes no sense... hey, good to be back... |
