Hi to everyone,

I've just posted some acoustic songs here on UBW - hope that you like them!

Paul Hendon on UBW

I've got a question about reviewing - I'd like to comment on some songs but I'm unclear about the procedure. Is there a list of songs that want/need reviews - or do I just choose a song/artist at random??

Also - should I have put this in the 'Song Reviews' forum? If so perhaps someone will shift it over!

This is a really nice site - good atmosphere - and loads of interesting stuff to listen to.

welcome to the site Paul!

i'm having a listen to your first track on your profile while i write this stuff out for you...nice diddy. pretty loud signal. the guitar is pretty clear, but i prefer a miked sound...of course it's such a bigger a pain to mess with. i'm crap with it myself. Laughing overall it's a nice recording. the vocals have a little too much reverb for my taste, at least when doing a track like this. everything seems to be well balanced and you've got a good voice. it's not super smooth, but it's not all over the place. it's also one i'll remember. i don't pay attention to lyrics, so no opinions there.

in the future, check out and post songs for review in the Song Reviews forum. you can copy code from your profile to paste in the forum as it seems you've discovered. if you're curious where to post something, just open the forums and start reading the stickies at the top of each forum. they are to give you and idea of what you should and shouldn't post and what's going on. if you have in questions, we have a forum for that, too, and one of us will answer to the best of our ability...and if it's something we can't take care of, the site admin will.

again, welcome UBW and welcome to the acoustic forums! i'm in an acoustic project, too. just click here, or on the first link in my signature. the other link is my solo project. be sure to request some reviews! Cool

Thanks gorg,

I'll post some comments in the reviews forum - and then ask for some feedback later.

Thanks for your comments on my stuff - I appreciate you taking the time. I'll get back when I've had a listen to your band and solo material

Hi gorgatron,

I listened to the solo electronic material - and can hear ideas building and experiments taking place. The pieces create a definite mood - and the 'ambient' description works well.

I then had a listen to a couple of the Sylvan Lane tracks ('Ficus' and 'Dull the Senses').

It struck me that there is a link between the effect that the two genres create - laying down patterns that modify - creating textures and moods that the vocals occasionally embellish.

Have you ever added the acoustic guitar and some ambient vocals into the electronic projects? (you're obviously proficient on the guitar - what would happen if you 'modified' its sound and used it in a loop/percussive way?).

You're probably thinking 'Frankenstein'!

thanks for listening. i don't really do vocals, almost as a rule. the acoustic stuff is all me and another fellow. it was either recorded live in the studio or a performance. that stuff isn't put together at all like my solo stuff. just two guys going balls out. i've done some different stuff with my acoustic for the solo project, but not much of it is up online. my track '020108 (demo)' uses a few acoustic loops. when you listen to the track and hear that think that sounds like some synth out of the 70's (there are a couple phrases throughout that come up), that's an acoustic riff that i just flipped the frequency and resonance with and took out some of the attack. no real effects to speak of on it other than a bit of reverb and a smidgen of digital delay.

once i get back to recording, i'll be messing around with my acoustic a little bit more. for a long time i didn't have a direct line and was having a hard time getting a good mic sound in my apartment. now i have a house, so i shoul dbe able to get a good signal out of both. we'll see what happens. best of luck to you and thanks again!!! Very Happy
