Just wondered.....

Electronica seems such a big genre, and the main categories don't have sub-sections.

I totally agree with you. I am trying to keep it broad to fill up the categories. I didn't want empty folders representing genre's not present here yet. As I get more and more artists I plan on breaking them up further to better differentiate within the genre what flavors are present. Electornica is HUGE right now, and there are certainly lots of styles, trance, ambient, dance, etc. I would like to seperate them out once I have a few more artists that fit into each of those categories....

Although I really enjoy all types of music, including electronica, I am by no means an expert. It would be great to have someone that practices the genre assist in recommendations for breaking it up in the best way, and to possibly moderate this thread as we get more artists and it grows. You have certainly been very active on the board so far.... If you would be interested let me know...

Thanks!

Yes, I wouldn't mind suggesting some categories once more artists join up. I'm not really a big expert on ambient music, but hopefully I can make some useful suggestions.

I've never moderated a forum before but I wouldn't mind doing it. Let me know by PM what I need to do.

I make ambient music. as for breaking up the genres, I agree with waiting untill more artists sign up. a bit of a waste with the numbers right now...

Yes, there aren't too many electronica artists on here at the moment. Have you mentioned UBW on any other boards that you're visiting? I recognise a couple of names from Soundclick.

I don't think I'm going to bother too much with Soundclick anymore, as there seem to be too many users (485,000 ?) so I'm not sure how many people actually listen to my tracks on there. "Never Alone" didn't get many plays on there when I uploaded it, but at least the reviews were very good, but it got lots of plays and downloads on other websites.

As a newage/ambient/soundtrack artist, it's often difficult to find appropriate catagories for representation of the same. I guess when people think of "indie artists", they usually think of singer/songwriters and bands.

To be honest I really dont know what kind of music I'm doing. Is it ambient or downtempo or trip-hop or something else I really dont know.So just saying it's electronica is much easier ."Something in between" as a genre would be useful for me i guess. Very Happy

I guess downtempo is also a recent category, there are always new ones that appear...
My "manager" had a good idea with a bad execution when he suggested we should create a category called "laptopica", it just sounds so stupid... hahahha

But in any case, I do make ambient music as well, so add me to the list... Smile

Just to clarify, Brian Eno is the one who coined the term "ambient" and of that came albums like "Discreet Music" and "Music for airport" etc... This is what I think ambient is.
Now there are musicians who write alternative or rock or whatever and add themselves to the list of ambient, and as mentioned it's already hard enough to know which category our work belongs to that the rock people should leave our stuff alone!!!!

But in all seriousness, it's just to say that if there were to be more categories here that it would be cool, and hard too... So are categories really THAT cool?
well, I'm just trying to confuse people, don't pay attention to me! I'm completely looney!

I agree - but it would be good if you kept the electronica category as well - I think my music probably fits best there. Cool

I think I fall under the ambient category, or perhaps it's just music? Shocked

Haven't got a clue where I fall right now. Maybe Electronic / World /Ambient.

Audiostreet have like zillions of sub genre under electronic which is kinda cool, but as our numbers here grow, so will the labels.

Good things take time, as they say in cheese factories. And those who own a large wine cellar. Confused
