If you want to submit your music to Round Two of Zig-Zag Live's contest for unsigned bands, you only have until April 30 to do so by visiting www.zigzaglive.com. Voting for those artists will then run from May 10-25.
Thus far, nine outfits have been selected as the finalists from Round One: A Brief Smile, Billy Joe And The Dusty 45s, David Kirton Band, Dignan, the Frontier Brothers, Honey Claws, Kid Theodore, Mostly Bears and Sparky Quano. Voting to whittle that down to three ends April 30, with victors revealed May 14, and each act will receive prize package valued at over $10,000 that includes one banner ad in three days of the CMJ daily e-mail blast; one track on the CMJ New Music Monthly CD compilation; one track posted at CMJ.com's "Download This" section for one week; and a six-month extension or free upgrade to their existing Sonicbids account.
The winners from Round Two will be announced on May 27 (they will receive the same prize package as Round One finalists). And the remaining six will do battle in the final round, for which voting will take place between June 1 and July 31, with the final, overall winner of the contest announced on August 15. That lucky band or musician will be showered with a prize package valued at over $30,000 that includes $2,000 cash; one track on a CMJ New Music Monthly CD compilation; one one-half page ad in CMJ New Music Monthly; two half-page ads in CMJ New Music Report print editions and two full-page ads in CMJ New Music Report PDF editions; one track posted at CMJ.com's "Download This" Section for one week; one one-half page ad in the Music Marathon Edition of CMJ NMR; four badges to CMJ Music Marathon 2008 for family, friends or fan giveaways; one banner ad in rotation for one month on www.cmj.com; and one banner ad in rotation on the CMJ daily e-mail blast for one week.
