Nice sounds. The acoustic guitars sounds good/light. The organ part is nice. The bass seems a tad light in the mix to me. I kept waiting and waiting for the drums to come in because the song comments indicate it was your first attempt to record drums... and then I heard them way-way back in the mix. they snuck up on me. I guess they eased in with brushes that blended in with the acoustic strumming at first? I noticed the drum kit sound first at 2:30 mark, but way back there. I really do like the song. I think it'd be served better by a little thwack and power in the drums, and perhaps a bit earlier in the

Drums to me a hard to record and get the type sound you hear on the radio - I think that sound may largely be beyond the avg home studio - but working with 3 mics you can get some good drum sound with a mic on snare, kick, and then an overall room mic to pick up the kit.

Anyhow, good tune. Keep on...

Many thanks for the kind review.

Having listened more have released that perhaps the drums should come in earlier.

Have really tried to keep realistic with recordings and have tried to avoid complex layers which would be impossible to replicate live.

Our drummer, Graeme, has a great voice but finds it tricky to drum and sing at the same time so think that may be why I'd left them so late-to give him chance for some stress free singing!

Will try the 3 mic set up when I get chance/time.

Cheers Jon Toad

Cant say i agree with smili's opinion of the drums, i think the understated, light drumming as oppsed to smili's 'thwack and power', would work much better. The songs meloncholic style would be ruined by a overblown drum roll or cymbal crash. The bass seems fine to me aswell. The section around 2:00 reminds me of one of the Smiths gloomier compositions. The later section of the song is beautiful as i expected for you to fade out to the singers warblings, but the change is a fine way to close the song.
