Soviet Underdog are easily one of Liverpool’s best bands. I remember reviewing them back in 2006 and whilst they were good then, I had no idea of the strength and power their music would attain given the intervening years. Pounding down like a hammer against your Dad’s forehead (you know he deserves it) Soviet Underdog demonstrate that you can be angry and still play great songs. Vocalist Mikey’s ability to engage the crowd like a circus ringmaster whilst twisting out another Alice In Chains-esque melody is matched only by Tom’s wall of distortion guitar. The rhythm section are tighter than Kylie Minogue’s bum hole as they captivate the crowd with a spiralling guitar hooks and grunge lad vocals. The Soviets are monumental and easily the equal of a lot of music you hear on the radio.

After the Soviets had crushed all before them, it was a case of "follow that son"
