grandad Bio:

Hi, my name is Grandad and I am a guitar. I come from Spain and I am 70 years old. I have lived most of my life in Birmingham, and have mixed with lots of famous people and bands. People like Ozzy Osbourne who used to come round all the time, Robert Plant and even Rod Stewart. Now I live in Bromley and I’m making sweet music again.

I was found at a very early age by an Irish tinker, who had moved to Birmingham to try and find work. I spent most of my life with him and his wife, but when he passed away I was handed down the generations, firstly to his son Ray, and then to his son Nat.

I am privileged to be part of a very musical family. Ray achieved UK chart success in the 1960s with a Brum Beat band called The Cheetahs, who had 2 top 40 hits in the ‘60’s and got to number 1 in some countries. Of course music was a lot different in those days. In my loft I have 2 suitcases full of newspaper and magazine clippings, including one of The Cheetahs on the front cover of NME in 1964.

I have now been passed down to Nat, Ray’s son who plays in a band named after me and lives in the heart of Bromley. All of the band’s songs have been written on me. It has been difficult though, because I am old and frail I can’t tune up properly anymore, so Nat has invented a new tuning for me to help me play through my old age. He has called this tuning “Grandad” as well and we think it is original (well we couldn’t find it on the internet anyway). We’re keeping the tuning a secret.

To date Nat has now written over 25 songs on me, and the debut single “Bring your Friends”, penned by close friend Tony Lambert is being released just as soon as it is mastered.

“Bring Your Friends” will be available to download at the band’s website
