OUR SOUND:
(look what someone wrote about us)
The Business of Flies is an unpredictable journey through a rock and roll dreamscape, led by lead singers Zach Jones and Cliff Usher. Youll find yourself swaying to the pristine twang of Colton Turners acoustic dreadnaught only to be bowled over by the gritty roar of Ushers telecaster. Sean McVey and Sam Barnes pick up the rhythm section with addictively thumping drum and bass grooves. Jones iron lungs soar over the mix while Ushers throaty rasp pours through it. Its undeniably catchy and downright sexy.
But why should you take valuable time out of your day to listen to another bunch of middle-class white guys from suburbia banging on their instruments and calling themselves a band?
Because the Business of Flies is fresh and inspired, but at the same time chock-full of hooks that dig into your head and cling there for weeks. This is the rock album youve been waiting for. The one youve been scouring the net to find, downloading heaps of MP3s and sorting through them like litter from a garbage can in search of that one album that fits so perfectly into your puzzle of a life and suddenly makes the bigger picture clear. Your search is over.

OUR STORY:
by Cliff Usher
Sean and Colton grew up together in Vienna, VA and have been friends since early childhood. I met them in high school. We went to the same school and were all on the football and basketball teams together. In the winter of our sophomore year they tricked me into being in a band with them, and we started jamming on Saturdays after basketball practice. Two years later, Colton met Zach in a music theory class he was taking at a different school, and we tricked him into being in the band with us. Sam has been my neighbor since middle school and he used to jam with us on the violin. After we got Zach in the band he switched over to bass.
Over the course of the 2004-2005 school year we all lived together in a house in Charlottesville, VA with the notorious Mike Diesel (hes kind of a big deal), practicing a couple of times a week and developing an extensive repertoire of 80s pop-radio covers. We toured the UVA frat scene, rocking out to hordes of drunken girls trying really hard to dance to Bon Jovi songs and guys trying really hard to get laid.
At the same time, I built a home studio under my IKEA loft bed and would periodically lock myself in my closet of a bedroom to record for days at a time. The whole process was decidedly unhealthy, but fruitful nonetheless. I finished the damn CD, Kamikaze Dreamer, about an hour before I left for Spain for the year. Hope you like it.
