Rhapsodist Bio: Isaac M. Colon III, is a graduate of DCs acclaimed Duke Ellington School of the Arts where his major was Visual Arts. He is now a major in Film/Video at Columbia College in Chicago. Isaac has preformed at the White House and State department as well as the Kennedy Center on three occasions where he was featured with Marc Smith, the inventor of the Poetry Slam. He has also performed by request for Quincy Jones. Isaac was the team captain for the 2000 DC Writers Corps National Teen Poetry Slam and made his third appearance at the national competition in 2001. He is now returned to the National Teen Slam as the team coach for the 2005 and 2006 DC Teen Slam Team. He has also preformed at Borders Books & Music, Cup of Dreams Coffee House, and on the nationally syndicated Black Entertainment Television show Teen Summit. He also performed twice for the NBC special Christmas in Washington. Isaac has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such artist as Aaliyah, the Black Eyed Peas, Common, Saul Williams and the Roots under the alias Rhapsodist. Isaac had the pleasure of premiering his first solo theatre project Rhapsodist at the DC Hip Hop Festival sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts. He plans to reprise his thetre project for the 2006 DC Hip Hop Festival. He has been published in the Washington Post Magazine as well as numerous poetry anthologies including the WritersCorps anthology Paint Me Like I am, published by Harper Collins. He is in his 8th year as student intern and is now Student Coordinator for DC WritersCorps and a member of the National Youth Arts Development board where he has represented the U.S. at the International Youth Arts Conference in London, England. Isaac has also taught Visual Arts for Inner City youth in Boston at Artist for Humanities in Chicago for the Gear-Up Program in conjunction with Columbia College as well as in DC at Centronia where he is the program assistant for the youth development program. Isaac is also a former member of Soul y Sols Spoken Resistance theatre and poetry troupe that won the DC mayors arts award. Isaac has a passion for the arts whether it is writing stories, creating poetry, producing visual arts or creating independent films. |
