STEVEN McLACHLAN - CAREER BIO Steven McLachlan, is a 19 year old singing/lyric writing sensation, who hails from the West Coast of Scotland (UK). From a very early age, the singer was entering & winning many talent competitions up & down the country. But it was the win of the well known talent search "Megastars" in 2001 that really kick started his career. It made Steven think that maybe, he has some talent & he should display it to the world. After making some press appearances following Megastars, finishing school & a short stint at college. The singer was stuck on how to further his career. He was soon prompted by professionals in the biz, to set-up a website & record his first demo. With help from some of the biggest unsigned music promo teams on the web, Steven's website was up & running, his name was on people's lips & then stepped in SongsForSale with an array of original tracks for demo recording. While preparing for the recording of his CD, top songwriter & video game producer "Mark Sheeky" asked Steven, to record the track "I Love You For Your Money" to be entered into the "Song For Europe 2003" competition. Steven of course accepted. The song was entered but sadly never made the finals. The 6 track EP, titled "The Demo" was recorded in spring 2002.The recording and very small release of the EP was funded by Steven himself. It was a mix of originals & covers, a formula that Steven has stuck to, as it worked very well. The EP made it #2 on the StarPolish Hot Sellers Chart, in July 2002 & stayed in the Top 5 for over a month. Shortly after the release of "The Demo" the singer had a very busy few months, he was contacted by an army of songwriters wanting Steven to lend his vocal talent to their songs, charities & organisations wanting to help out in various ways & was asked to take to the stage at many venues. He went on to sign with one of the charities to do a 6 month project, where he would be funded to, record, buy equipment for live gigs & various other materials. In return he had to put on some free concerts at community venues. In the 6 months Steven had recorded 2 albums, "Bright Eyes" which featured the 6 tracks from "The Demo" EP with many new additions & "Inspiration" the covers album. Both records had a small internet release & was going through the motions of shop distribution, when after a lengthy period of non-stop work (gigs, recording, travelling etc) the singer decided he needed a break. While on his break, the singer decided to release both albums officially in mp3 format, "Bright Eyes" hit #4 (pop) and "Inspiration" hit #1(easy listening) on the Official Australian Digital Music Charts. As the singer had success previously in Mp3/Download charts with singles from "The Demo", and pre-release tracks from both albums, it seemed the right thing to do. Over the past 2 years, he has in fact had 15 hit songs on various official charts. The biggest being "When You Say Nothing At All" which was #1 for over 5 months & has, had well over 21,500 downloads. When it was time to get back on the job, Steven realised he had grown & wanted to work on new material for a new album, rather then keep running with "Bright Eyes" & "Inspiration". This is when he started working on ideas for album "The Way The Story Goes", once he knew exactly what he wanted, it was back to the studio. During the recording process, the vocalist was found by indie label "Statue Records", who offered a distribution & promotion deal. After long thought, he signed the deal. The album was promptly released, Steven now dubs the album his "first proper release" & the other 2 as demo albums. Recently, Steven has gained a lot of interest in the industry & re-kindled some old, from various labels, management teams, songwriters & press. So what could be next? Steven is looking into signing a new deal & is working on a follow up album with the working title "Candle In The Dark" & after already doing a lot of big shows this year, he's arranging a hoard of PA's for the coming months. The pop singer, also released a single in aid of the Tsunami crisis, to help raise funds for all who were affected. As well as officially re-releasing Inspiration with added tracks also to help the fund. Keep your eyes & ears at the ready, as things are about to get even bigger & better for this successful young star. |
