Hera Crush
Hera Crush Bio:

Hera Crush brings together five musically obsessed, long term friends and synchronizes their energies into a single innovative force. A band of shades, we establish a state of emotional and musical calm and then shatter it in one swift moment, replacing tranquility with turbulence, peace with fury, stability with wild abandon. Hera Crush is all about contrasts - the Jekyll and Hyde, the good and the evil, the gentle and the viscious. Our journey is about challenging and reinventing boundaries to create a nirvanic, schizophrenic musical heaven.

Like all good things, unmistakeable yet essentially indefinable, Jody Thomas' voice is a full range of colours. Emotive, often serene, sometimes haunting, but always teetering on the edge, ready to move from white to black and explode into a searing, snarling rage. The vocals provide the blueprint for the rest of the band. Steve Mitchell's guitar work is all about subtle suggestion, creating shades and textures that curl around and intertwine with the rest of the music. Kai Thomas' guitar playing is more demanding, insistent and direct, driving the band forward from the hub. Paul Mitchells' bass enhances the contrast, gliding from a smooth, melodic foundation into probing, jagged attacks. Paul Bennun's drums are rooted in a complete understanding of the pulse that allows the music to communicate, dictating and regulating its flow.

The Man Who Runs The Show introduces the hollow and haunting vocals of Jody Thomas with an interesting guitar accompaniment which suddenly changes into insistent and serious rock, with the voice powering through the deep bass line and channeling its energy towards the listener, whose attention is grabbed immediately.

Shauna Rahman, The Irish Times & TCAL

'The Man Who Runs The Show', the title track, is a long but classy offering of dark, alternative indie. Layers of guitars summon up an intense soundscape, which is finally brought to an abrupt end.

John Swaine, Neon

Very emotive indie rock that builds, twists and turns, has a big drama fuelled instrumental break and an all round downbeat mood.

This Is Fun, beginning like Radiohead with a dash of REM, gradually expands into a Hera Crush, lilting rock anthem, the guitars and bass stealing the show.

Shauna Rahman, The Irish Times & TCAL

We are soon greeted with the Radiohead-like "This Is Fun" - a beautiful yet downbeat offering that is nothing if not powerful.

A brilliant cover of "Shout" [Tears For Fears] lifts the spirits - never overworked but thoughtfully carried out, this has all the beauty of the original.
