Jayaira Bio:

My name is Jayaira I am a recording artist born Cincinnati, Ohio but raised in Atlanta, Ga. I grew up with my nana who is my father’s mother. I never knew my mother aside from the first four years of my life that I lived with her. In those four years, from what I have been told, we pretty much lived in poverty. My nana has raised me from five until now, I am now 20 years old. Upon her raising me, I couldn’t even read, I didn't even recognize the number 9. My father, from what my family has told me, was an incredible giving man. He always helped my mom with me not only because he was my father, but that’s just the kind of man he was. My mother was not the ideal parent and honestly she was never a parent to me, but my father never disrespected her. My father was killed when I was three years. This led to a very interesting bitter- sweet relationship between my nana and I. However, thanks to her, I wouldn’t be where I am today. We were a family that had gone through a major loss, but growing up I always knew that I wanted to be a star. My first song I ever wrote was about Winnie the Pooh and I was 7 years old at the time. While matriculating through elementary school, during recess, my friends and I were the popular girl group from Disney’s The Cheetah Girls. While alone in class or recess, I would write songs and imagine that I was the star of popular music videos at the time. I would write “full” albums in composition notebooks. The outside had the album name, the inside had the tracklist, while the song titles included “The boy likes me” and “I am a pop star.” I have since lost the book, but I will never forget it. I envisioned myself in shows like “That’s so Raven” and “Hannah Monatana.” Thus, my love for acting began at a young age as well. I have done several plays such as starring as Annie in Annie at my church, Sarabi in Disney’s The Lion King Jr Broadway production, and my first short film role as Priscilla in CupCake. Currently, I am a college student at Spelman college in my senior year. I have overcome so many obstacles thrown at me and I am constantly doing so. I would say my genre is R&B/ Pop because those are the two genres that fit my voice and I have grown up embodying the most. I know I am supposed to use my story and songs so it helps others understand the importance of being yourself, determining your own success, and most importantly, you are not where you come from. My music will be someone’s motivation just like it always will be for me. Thank You.
