Ruby & The Roughcuts Bio:


Formed in the spring of 2013, Dorset (UK) based band Ruby & The Roughcuts have already made an impact both locally and further afield. Original members Judy and Cal started the band mostly doing rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll covers and over time have introduced their own original material which is now the focus of the band. Inspiration has come from various sources, the 1950's vibe, rockabilly, hillbilly, rock & roll, country, garage, surf and psychobilly. The original material now makes up a good 50% of the set list and growing all the time. Over three years the line-up has changed to what it is now but with it the sound has continued to evolve.

The line up includes Vox Judy Gosler with her own unique style and lively onstage presence and performance. When not performing on stage, Judy is also a full time vocal coach.

On lead guitar is Edinburgh born Callum Ross. He's played guitar since the age of 13 and spent his formative years playing with various, punk, rockabilly and psychobilly bands. As well as lead guitar, Cal is also the main principal songwriter in the band.

Drummer Andrew 'Pidge' Pidgeon has now been with Ruby & The Roughcuts for over a year. He's not only technically proficient but knows how to groove. His style of percussion adds a distinctive feel to the Roughcut sound.

Completing the back line on bass and double bass is Harry O'Shea. Harry is also a recording engineer and producer and has been instrumental in crafting the new EP ' Roughcut Man'.

Last but not least is new boy Luke Maw on sax, who, to quote Harry, “plays way beyond his tender years”. Luke originally came along for a jam with the band but his natural feel for swing and improvisation was such a perfect fit that he has been with them ever since.

The band are a great team each putting their own input into what makes them Ruby & The Roughcuts.
