Broken Wrists to Broken PA's: The Bio of All of the Above

It all started as an idea one day, with Zach and his friend Tyler. "Dude.. you know how awesome it'd be to be in a band?" "Yea, and I got the coolest name... Blank Space."

A couple of years later, Zach decided to take this dream to the next step. He played guitar and had taken lessons from the Great Marty Hayes, but had never really played by himself all that much. He looked at his guitar one day and decided to start learning some chords, and some basic stuff again. After lots of practice he began to show improvement. His friend Lee, who played bass, one day heard him and said, "Let's start a band".

The dream was on, Zach and Lee began to write a couple of songs including All I Need, Break, Don't Cry Little Girl, and some others. They began to practice at each other's houses. Lee refused to sing so that stuck Zach with the vocals. But they didn't feel like a band yet.. they were missing something... the drummer.

Nick, Zach's cousin, had been playing drums for quite some time. Zach and Lee agreed that he was probably the most talented in the band. Nick had heard about the band and was happy to join later. Zach and Nick had played a couple of times before, but never really anything serious, or to their full potential to say in the least. Lee, Nick, and Zach practiced a couple of times getting down their original songs, and the unforgettable Relient K cover of Sadie Hawkins Dance.

In 2001, Zach's grandpa gave him a call. He told him that he had them set up for a gig... Two weeks from now. Wow.. a gig. Everyone was pumped, but the fact of only having two weeks, was a little scary. The band rushed to Nick's house to get some last minute practicing in. Everything seemed to be going well, and the gig wouldn't be all that bad. They thought of naming the band "2 Weeks 2 Late".

The gig finally came, and somehow our first name had become "Grandpa's Garage Band". We got this name because Nick thought it up when we played in grandpa's garage. The parents seemed to like it, but the band was like... eh. OK, enough of this side story. Zach and Lee arrived on the scene of the gig. They were ready and Nick should've been there. They went inside only to find out Nick had broken his wrist 10 minutes earlier. "You're kidding me right?" Zach asked his cousin Mel as she explained with tear-filled eyes what had happened. "I guess this could've been expected with someone like Nick in the band," they laughed. Nick had broke his wrist on a swingset out back, by jumping off the swing.
Nonetheless, the show had to go on. Zach and Lee went up and did a couple of songs. It wasn't the same, but it was enough to get the band another gig the next year.

In the Summer of 2003 Lee moved away to California. The band had been trying to recruit a bassist for all of their gigs. That same summer they had a gig and Joel, a friend of Nick's filled in on the bass. They played in the Gazebo of New Vienna, it was sweet, except for the fact that the "supplied" PA didn't show up until a half hour after the show had started... craziness. Zach did a couple acoustic songs while they waited and finally it arrived and the show was on... "Don't Cry Little Girl" was awarded best performance of the Summer on the Gazebo, and the band rejoiced.

Zach met this guy named Michael Luehrs who was an awesome lead guitarist that summer. Michael joined the praise and worship band (the No Names) Zach played in at church. Zach and Michael became very good friends, and Michael decided to join [Blank Space]. At first they came across difficulty in convincing the K-Mart Nazis to allow him out of work to play. But in the end it all worked out.

Nonetheless they were still missing a bassist. A part not easily filled. Zach asked Brooks, his friend from the band Scapegoat, to fill in on bass. Brooks enjoyed it quite a lot. In fact he even sang some backup. The band agreed that Brooks was the missing link and is now the bassist All of the Above had been looking for.

With changing times and slightly changing styles, the band decided to change their name from [Blank Space] to All of the Above. (*See picture atop)
The band continues to write new songs and is slowly working out of the habit of practicing only two weeks within the time before a show. All of the Above was awarded 2nd Place in the Pickaway County Battle of the Bands in 2004 & 2005.
