Shane Milburn
Shane Milburn Bio:

When I was a kid I thought I'd like to be a rock star. Mom got me started on my first guitar when I was in 3rd grade. Some of my best times have been spent songwriting, recording and playing. For whatever reason it brings out something a little more essential or core.

Most of the songs below are from projects recorded in my living room. Major influences include: Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Sarah McLachlan, Bon Jovi, Matchbox 20, Stone Temple Pilots, Journey, Boston, Beatles and Elvis.

My college roomate Kyle Jeter and his brother Kerry contributed in many of the recordings, and Ken Woodard - a friend from work - has contributed bass on occasion. Stu Phillips from Marion IL played on most drum tracks.

Hope you enjoy listening.

When your moment comes - Rise Above. I consider this Experimental Rock. Spoken lyric with layered vocals. This is the first song I wrote incorporating the loop program ACID. Had a good time with this song and like the result. The main drum loop is from Siggi Baldursson's Drum Sugar loop CD. I put several guitar loops over the top and recorded the rest normally.

While I might bend I wont be broken. Rock tune w/ Acoustic Intro. Everything here is me except for the drums which were put down by Stu Phillips of Marion IL. (thx for the great drums Stu). Recorded live with a guiitar and drums. Went back in later and layered in the other parts.

All the candles burning... I often have difficulty with song lyrics, so I asked my college roommate Kyle Jeter if he would put some words to this. He wrote the poem, plays keys, and sings on this one. I'm on guitar; Ken Woodard on Bass; Stu Phillips on drums; and Kyle's brother Kerry can be heard on acoustic guitar (if you listen real close). This song was included on Kyle and Kerry's indie CD "Orion's Garden." They may have a UBW page soon.

Gonna spend a little time on the mountain. Song structure is the classic verse-verse-verse-verse :) This started as a demo to a click to work out parts and I ended up liking the result. Everything on there is me except for drums. Stu Phillips (Marion IL) put a cool syncopated drum beat on later that I think really helps the song. Hope you enjoy.

I could try to count the ways.... This tune was recorded a few years ago based on a riff inspired by SRV. I believe everything on here is me except the drums. Originally recorded to a click track and a drummer came in put the drums on at the end. This is a favorite of some of my friends.

Leave me here, I think I'd like to stay for a while... Kerry Jeter sings the vocal here - thanks Kerry! Kyle Jeter put in some tasteful keyboard parts that serve the tune well. The acoustic guitar part is the first full take I ever recorded on a PC the day I learned how to record on my Paris DAW. The recording has a serious tempo lag near the transition phase in the song, and also I just didn't know what I was doing concerning levels at this point - but I still like it and hope you do too.

This is one of the first 2 or 3 songs I recorded on a Tascam 4-track when I was back in high school. I'm thinking I was about 16 when I recorded this so that puts the year around 1987. I was influenced by Satriani heavily at the time and this was my first attempt at an instrumental guitar song. The song title is from a section of the song where I'm playing around with volume swells.

Another from way back - around 1990 - but more in the rock vein. You can probably hear the heavy Joe Satriani influences. He inspired me to write stuff like this, and I'd love to hear Satch record this one. This was recorded on my old Tascam 4-track cassette recorder. I pulled into a computer and edited a bit, but there's only so much cleanup I can do.
