The Private Side
The Private Side Bio:

The Private Side formed in August 2008 and are already making a name for themselves as one of the Westcountry's most exciting up and coming alternative rock acts.

Energy exudes from their live shows as they showcase crunchy rock based riffs, laid back acoustic tunes, latin inspired melodies and pop anthems, punctuated with the odd reggae beat and trumpet solo!

The Private Side draw on a variety of musical backgrounds and influences to form an eclectic yet cohesive musical identity. With their shared, unbridled passion for exceptional rock music Alex, Nick, Tom and Bassy first convened as a band in a garage in Bath (hereafter referred to as "Studio 51") on a wet afternoon in August 2008. It soon became apparent that they were on to something really quite good...

Since then they have gigged extensively around the South West, and have been asked back to play at every single venue so far. The Private Side's self-titled, 3-track debut EP is out now. Message us for a copy!

The Private Side are:

Alex Crutcher - Vocals, Keyboards, Trumpet
Sebastian Fox - Guitars, Vocals
Tom Cracknell - Bass, Guitar, Vocals
Nick Cracknell - Drums, Gutar, Vocals

In case you were wondering what it means!?...

The word “Barasi” comes from the Nembe people of the Niger Delta in southern Nigeria. The story goes that when the British first landed and claimed one of the many island among the mangroves, an officer grabbed a passing woman by the shoulder and demanded of her the name of their location. She replied with an angry retort “Barasi!” which the British cartographers duly misinterpreted, naming their new colony Brass Island. “Barasi!” actually translates as “leave me alone!”

The wanton destruction of the Niger Delta, its people and ecosystem in pursuit of oil is a tragedy that remains largely ignored. The people see none of the vast wealth that lies beneath their forests and flows into the pockets of corrupt politicians and oil companies. Such marginalisation repression has lead to escalating tensions and violence between different ethnic groups, the government and militias, while illegal practices by oil companies such as the flaring of excess gas has lead to the destruction of one of West Africa’s most important ecosystems.

Music has the power to move and motivate, transcend boundaries and distance. We hope our music can, in some small way help give a voice to those who don’t have one.
