Zeneva Bio:
From the streets of East L.A. and sunny Nor-Cal oasis of San Rafael comes a sound unlike anything you have ever heard. Well, that's not quite so. If you've ever enjoyed the musical stylings of King Crimson, Bat Makumba, Tool, Radiohead, Gypsy Kings, or Rusted Root, you may find some familiarity in Zeneva. That's not to say they don't put something shiny and new on the table. When combined, Jason Ardiles' classical expertise in flamenco guitar, Paulo's hot Brazilian beats, and the eclectic electronic experimentation of Max Savage float Zeneva to the forefront of the local scene. The more you listen and churn the painfully honest lyrics and heart melting vocals, the more you will come to believe that Zeneva is something special.
Zeneva has been performing since 2001 but reformed this year, adding accomplished capoeira percussionist Paulo Presotto. Though you're not likely to find the Zeneva gents smiling at any point during their performances, the energy they emanate fills the small clubs where they perform as is rarely found in the realm of the drunken bar audience, unprepared for the musical destiny that has befallen them. Time and again, I've seen the loudest and most apathetic bar-goers be taken over by silence while they gape at the dynamic group. Even the most stationary hipsters and confirmed wallflowers are moved to the dance floor when Daniel Arruda and Paulo bring on the killer beats. Not surprisingly, Zeneva's exciting new sound and boyish good looks have begun to draw crowds at their various Bay Area regular venues, one of which is the illustrious Canvas Gallery in the heart of San Francisco.
