Medinah Starr
Medinah Starr Bio:

Medinah Starr: CHECK ME ON MYSPACE @ WWW.MYSPACE.COM/MEDINAHDEEN

Influences: Common more then any other MC, but also Black Thought, Talib, Mos Def and MC Lyte.

This is the moment that the hip-hop industry has been waiting for! A female MC with a powerful voice, a strong delivery and lyrical substance is here to quench the thirst of hip-hop lovers everywhere! Medinah Starr takes you back to a time when hip-hop was not about violence, guns and bling. As she so eloquently put it in her song The Reasons, “I do it for the love; I do it cause I can; I do it to bring truth and to help you overstand”.

There is no doubt about it! This female MC is here to re-energize the music industry with a self-defining, rhythmic style that distinguishes her from other MCs in her genre. Refusing to jump on the ban wagon rapping about sex, drugs or gunplay, Medinah spits reality rap and has no problem addressing controversial subjects such as racism, sexism, poverty and change.

The beautiful West Philly native is truly a breath of fresh air in an industry oversaturated with gangster gimmicks. Gimmick-free, articulate and passionate about music she creates a high energy, positive atmosphere when she performs! When asked what she raps about she summarizes her topics of choice by saying, “Life. Love and Music”. According to Medinah Starr, every rhyme or poem falls into one of these three categories.

Writing is her first love and has always provided her with a sense of comfort in an ever-changing world. She began writing poetry at age eight and her poetry eventually evolved into rhymes. She developed a love for music at a very young age. Her cousin was a founding member of the legendary group, “The Last Poets”. Growing up she listened to artists such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Lauryn Hill, KRS-1, Public Enemy and Gangstarr. Her style was also influenced by jazz and R&B.

She has collaborated with artists such as Guru from the group Gangstarr, Shabaam Sahdeeq of lyricist lounge fame, and Planet from the group OuterSpace currently signed to Babygrande. She has been performing for over ten years and has opened up for groups such as The Roots, Jeru Da Damaga, KRS-1, Black Moon, and the hip-hop band Fuse.

After earning her bachelor’s degree from Temple University in 2004, she once again immersed herself in writing and music and in the summer of 2006 she released an independent mixtape entitled, “The Renaissance: The Rebirth of Hip – Hop, Vol. I”!

Her debut album "Beyond Reazon" is scheduled to be released on Introspect Records early 2008.
