Justin Alexander Burnham’s musical roots run deep. Burnham is the driving force behind the band
"Lies unKnown". He was born on August 16, 1988 in Detroit. Growing up, Justin was exposed to a wide variety of classic rock and contemporary music. Both his mother and father played as gigging musicians in various rock groups over the last two decades. Although the Burnham family struggled at times, the musician lifestyle provided Justin with an appreciation and passion for music. His father played the drums and passed along his talents to his son. From birth on, the musical foundations for Justin were laid and inspired him to play and eventually write his own music.

Justin and his brother were raised in Detroit by their parents for the early part of their lives. Justin’s parents divorced when he was young and life became even more unpredictable. At the age of 12, he was sent to live with his aunt and uncle in Monroe, Michigan. It was at this time and place that Justin found strength in lyrics, particularly in pop punk bands whose members shared a similar story.

The next transition for Justin came at the age of 16. He was sent back to his father who was now living in Clinton Township, Michigan. With punk rock on his mind, Justin formed his second band. He also began learning guitar and worked in fast food to buy himself a Turqouise-Hollowbody and Blue-Voodoo Halfstack. Just as the drums came natural to him, so did the ability to play guitar and write music. Maybe it was an inborn trait, or the pain in his soul, but something sparked Justin’s writing abilities and this young talent wrote 95% of his band’s material. The band eventually split, not the first and probably not the last. However, the constant will remain Justin Alexander.

Justin dropped out of school and started working to support himself. He would experience several unpleasant living situations over the next few years, from living in a one-room apartment with no electricity to living out of a suitcase and playing guitar for change. At the age of 18 Justin found a semi-permanent living situation with a good friend and fellow musician in Detroit. They discovered the tight knit punk rock music scene in Detroit and Justin has felt at home in this music community since.

Justin Alexander continues to write and play for his band "Lies unKnown". His lyrics are a story of his tangled past and hopes for his future. The music is an eclectic blend of the band’s many inspirations, which range from punk rock’s pioneers to soulful blues singers. The band now has management and recently recorded their first self-titled CD.

Justin’s story is bittersweet. He has seen many hardships and challenges in his young life. However, his past is the soul beneath Justin’s profound lyrics and the heart behind "Lies unKnown".
