Broken Lifts

Broken Lifts Bio:

Broken Lifts aims to combine technology with nature; to add emotion to drum machines and computers; to express the conflict between living within urban environments, towerblocks and busy bus routes with man's natural instincts; to create a fanbase who share our ideals and pursuits, and who wish to share their ideas. Holly Cumbers and Ian Miller have worked together since early 2005 on various projects, forming Broken Lifts in May 2006 whilst studying History at the University of Manchester. Deciding not to live the full time life of a student (drinking, sleeping, drinking again), they decided to make a little more of their free time and pursue their musical careers in order to express their concepts and unique view of life.

The following factors influenced us to create our unique music:


1) Travelling on a bus through Rusholme in Manchester, whilst being forced to listen to the "urban sounds" of stoned and underfed black teenagers (and quite often very confused "black" teenagers who were in fact white) MCing over various forms of music which we could clearly do a much better job of.


2) Immediately following this, getting stuck in a lift in the infamous Owens Park tower, once home of the Chemical Brothers, hence "The Broken Lifts." Musical history was made.
