Great question - makes me think because it's not necessarily a list of favorite artists, but a list of artists that pushed music into interesting areas for me.

1. Van Halen - The 1984 and 5150 albums probably influenced my musical direction more than any other. I associated Eddie's playing with a raw energy that was new to me in my early teens.
2. Stevie Ray Vaughn - His cover of Hendrix's "Little Wing" taught me an entirely different style of playing. very different from rock technique.
3. Joe Satriani - he made guitar rock instrumentals popular - his playing inspired me and really took the guitar a level further after Eddie Van Halen had stopped innovating.
4. Sarah MacLachlan - there's a mellowness in what she does that connects with me.
5. Beatles - while I don't listen to them much anymore, I remember wearing out that Beatles greatest hits cassette when I was in grade school. They had to be a major influence.

eminem deffinately influcenced me, as well as tupac and jay-z, but my biggest influence would have to be the support i received from my girlfriend along with UBW members and everyone else that supported me

The artists would be, in no particular order,

The Clash,
Smashing Pumpkins,
Guns n Roses,
Manic Street Preachers,
Skid Row.

Is anyone going to keep count and list the top ten?
